New Challenges of Media Art Form.
The art form of media has gone through a lot of changes in recent times. Just twenty years ago, there was only the video camcorder and film cameras. There were no digital cameras and HD camcorders that could provide images that were close to film quality. However, with the new technology of the media comes new challenges.
This advancement of technology has brought us into the participation era. Nowadays, anyone can get famous. anyone can become a celebrity. When twenty years ago, all you had was newspapers, professional magazine companies and television, now we have Youtube and the internet.
With the advent of social video media, there has been a bring up of shows that are more personal in nature. They are not formal and polished like in traditional media. Interestingly enough it actually gets people more interested and inspires more trust. One reason could be that people are becoming more cynical about figures of authority. The every man seems more trustworthy due to how much easier it is to relate to them.
One challenge is in making a more professional production. A lot of digital camcorders do not record at 24 fps. Very few people have enough money to get the cameras that do. So they’re best bet is to get the desired effect through editing.
Perhaps the greatest challenge is getting famous. While it is now easier to achieve fame than it was before social media, it can still be tricky. You can still upload your videos and have it sit there with no views. It would take a little bit of advertising and marketing to get the views. Once you figure that out, you will become a celebrity in your own right. The advancements in technology have led to an era where basically everyone can be on “TV” so to speak. Everyone can get famous. It no longer takes special connections.
